Trump-Endorsed WLFI Token Sale Sees Website Outages

On Tuesday, World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency project endorsed by former U.S. President Donald Trump and his family, faced challenges during the launch of its public token sale. The sale of the WLFI token, designed as a "governance token" for the platform, was marred by technical difficulties as the project’s website suffered multiple outages due to overwhelming traffic. Despite these issues, some 344 million tokens were sold, accounting for just 1.7% of the 20 billion tokens available to the public.

The token sale went live at 12:40 UTC and soon encountered issues, with the World Liberty Financial website intermittently crashing, reportedly due to receiving 72 million unique visits within the first hour.

The WLFI token sale is restricted to accredited U.S. investors and non-U.S. participants, in compliance with U.S. securities regulations. "WLF strongly believes in supporting US dollar-based stablecoins and DeFi applications that seek to preserve the US Dollar’s status, ensuring it remains the global reserve currency for the next century—without compromising the freedoms that decentralized assets provide," says a "gold paper about the token released Tuesday morning.
