Issue #893: Simply elegant

One of my favorite heuristics in life is following the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid). My freshman year Latin teacher (shoutout Mr. Turner) made me aware of this principle early during my time in high school and it has stuck with me ever since. Trusting my gut and avoiding the urge to overcomplicate things has worked out well for me so far in my life. I think this rag is a perfect manifestation of me attempting to apply this principle in my every day life. It's not pretty. It doesn't change much. Has a straightforward structure. And attempts to focus on substance over aesthetics. (Though, I do very much appreciate good aesthetics in meat space.)

I think my application of this principle in every day life is what makes me so passionate about Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the perfect embodiment of KISS. A simple, 8-page white paper that resulted in a very straightforward protocol. Miners uses hashcash SHA256 to prove they have completed work, full nodes download the rules of the protocol and make sure other participants are following those rules, and there will never be more than 21 million bitcoins. Bitcoin is slow and relatively dumb. Simple, if you will.

Things that are overcomplicated, like a rushed 5,593 page "stimulus package", should be met with extreme skepticism. The intentions behind over-complication are very straightforward, to deceive and to confuse. Today, our world is filled with things that are extremely overcomplicated. Gerrymandering, mail-in vote counting, monetary policy, fiscal policy, ETH 2.0, and any process that involves personally dealing with the Federal Government; the DMV, Social Security, Obamacare, paying taxes, etc. Individuals need to strive to simplify everything they can in their lives.

Local is simple. Bitcoin is simple. Your Uncle Marty truly believes that focusing on these two things particularly will make the world a much better place. Bring the decision making back to the people who are affected by the decisions that are made and simplify (fix) the money with Bitcoin.

It's really that simple, stupid.

Final thought...

Looking for a nice ribeye for lunch.
