Highlighting the signal in Bitcoin, economics, technology, and culture.

Marty Bent is the founder of TFTC (Truth for the Commoner), a Bitcoin-focused media company, and the author of The Commoner (formerly “Marty's Bent”), a weekday newsletter on money, markets, AI, energy and privacy. Since 2017 he has published near-daily commentary that cuts through the noise of the digital-asset world to focus on Bitcoin, sound money, energy, and freedom technology, building a large and loyal audience of readers and listeners.

Bent studied economics at DePaul University and began his career in traditional finance at Dearborn Capital Management, a managed-futures fund, where he wrote market commentary and sat in on calls with hedge-fund CIOs. Watching central banks repeatedly miss their policy targets deepened his skepticism of the legacy financial system and drew him toward Bitcoin. He launched the newsletter on June 8, 2017, at first to a handful of family members, and the podcast that became “TFTC: A Bitcoin Podcast” that same year.

Today, alongside running TFTC, Marty is a Managing Partner at Ten31, a Bitcoin-only venture firm investing in Bitcoin infrastructure and freedom tech, and he co-hosts the weekly “Rabbit Hole Recap” with Matt Odell. He also got hands-on with the industry early as a co-founder of the flare-gas mining company Great American Mining (since acquired by Crusoe Energy), and that operating background gives his commentary a rare blend of media reach, investor perspective, and real-world insight.
