Issue #639: Run Bitcoin from space: a tutorial

Here's a really cool tutorial on how to set up a satellite dish so that you can connect to Blockstream's satellite node currently orbiting our planet. The step by step guide was written by an engineer named Alex Singleton who does an incredible job of intertwining the plot of 007: GoldenEye throughout.

Most importantly, Alex really drives home the point of why it is so crucial that we have individuals running satellite nodes. The fragility of our grid system is something that has been overlooked for far too long. We could be sent to the Stone Ages for an extended period of time with very little effort. It is imperative that we 1.) work to make our grid system more distributed and b.) get as many people as possible setting up satellite nodes and securing backups so that we have some sort of fall back in the event of a grid disruption.

I highly recommend you check out Alex's guide, if only for the pangs of nostalgia that you'll experience from the GoldenEye talk.

We need more critical thinkers

On Friday, I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Dave Collum, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Cornell University, about a number of taboo topics that many tend to avoid, including Bitcoin. Dave is someone I have been following on Twitter for quite some time and someone who, in my eyes, represents a dying breed of critical thinker that we should be putting on an endangered species list and attempting to repopulate as vigorously as possible.

Today's world is dominated by loud people with profit driven agendas. The systems that make up our world are complex and it takes an embarrassing amount of hubris to think they can be micromanaged or completely understood. Luckily, we have people like Dave around who are willing to point out the places where agenda is overstepping logic in the mainstream.

Final thought...

It's Scrooged season baby!

I'll see you freaks on Thursday. Enjoy it.
