Jack Mallers is cooking!
Yesterday afternoon, Jack Mallers and the team at Zap announced the launch of Olympus, a service that enables users to buy Bitcoin within the Zap app. The availability of Olympus in the app makes it so any user can go from having absolutely no bitcoin to spending bitcoin on the Lightning Network within seconds.
Here's a video that demonstrates just how easy this will be:
This may sound crazy, but the Olympus UX flow feels like something that could help spur adoption in the non-custodial, full-node verifying direction very quickly. The dream seems to be taking form. Obviously, it will take time for this to proliferate, but I do wholeheartedly believe we're getting much closer to a seamless Bitcoin on-ramp UX that lowers the barrier to entry for new users. I can see this particular feature being utilized by dedicated Bitcoin pubs looking to prove a use case, but also by companies and influencers who have been deplatformed by payments providers and need a way to monetize. This is what I imagine at the moment, but let's see how it plays out.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jack and discussing the story behind Olympus, how it came together, and what it means for the future of Bitcoin adoption. I highly recommend you check it out when you get a chance.
The future is bright!
Final thought...
Venezuelan rum is very good.
Enjoy your weekend, freaks.
