Riot Platforms Acquires 667 Bitcoin as BTC Hits New All-Time High

Riot Platforms, a leading Bitcoin mining and digital infrastructure company, has announced the acquisition of 667 BTC at an average price of $101,135 per coin. The purchase, which occurred on December 12-13, coincided with Bitcoin’s surge to a new all-time high of $107,120. Riot disclosed the acquisition through an SEC filing and a public announcement on social media platform X.

This transaction raises Riot’s total Bitcoin holdings to 17,429 BTC, now valued at approximately $1.82 billion based on current market prices of $106,533 per Bitcoin. According to the company, the acquisition was funded through proceeds from its recently completed offering of $594.4 million in 0.75% convertible senior notes due 2030. Riot noted that nearly all net proceeds, amounting to $579.2 million, were allocated toward purchasing Bitcoin.

“Through this acquisition and mining production year-to-date, Riot has generated a BTC Yield Per Share of 36.7% QTD, and 37.2% YTD,” Riot Platforms stated.

Riot Platforms’ move solidifies its position as one of the largest Bitcoin-holding public mining companies, second only to Marathon Digital, which recently acquired 703 BTC. MicroStrategy, another major corporate Bitcoin investor, has also ramped up purchases, further fueling bullish market sentiment.

Riot Platforms’ stock price (NASDAQ: RIOT) responded positively to the news, climbing 1.4% during Monday’s trading session, closing at $14.15. While still significantly lower than its February 2021 peak of $79.50, the stock reflects growing investor optimism amid the ongoing Bitcoin price surge.

Riot Platforms’ ongoing expansion of its Bitcoin reserves underscores a growing trend of corporations embracing Bitcoin as part of their long-term financial strategy. As Bitcoin continues to gain traction, Riot’s aggressive acquisitions position it as a key player in the evolving Bitcoin space.
