Here's a great opinion piece that was published in Bloomberg yesterday by Elaine Ou that does a great job of breaking down Bitcoin, its value proposition, and what we must focus on to ensure its long-term success. This is a great thing to send your friends and family for some light weekend reading. Especially if they're curious, but don't quite "get it" yet.
One thing in particular that stuck out to me in Elaine's piece and that is the screenshotted section above. This was a pretty jarring revelation that made me somewhat scared for the future of the country we live in. Indian phone scammers feel as if Americans are enough of a low hanging fruit due to their obedient nature that they target us specifically to siphon off HUNDREDS of millions of dollars. Come on, guys. This is embarrassing. How the hell have we let our guards down this bad?
I guess it's true what they say about individual rights being ceded slowly over time; as a collective, we don't realize what is happening while it's happening just as frogs boiling in water don't realize they're about to die. One day we'll wake up, look around, and wonder how it all got so Orwellian. As I described in the thread associated with the above tweet, I used to work for a man who emigrated to the US after having lived in the USSR for the majority of his life. I'll never forget the stern warning he gave me one day 5-years ago; America is slowly but surely turning into an Orwellian state, much like the USSR he had escaped from. Again, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and protect our individual freedoms. Even if it means having hard discussions and debates.
This is why we Bitcoin, freaks. Bitcoin radically favors individuals and is an incredible sovereignty preserving tool.
Was a bad week for punctuality.
Enjoy your weekend, freaks.
