Emory University disclosed holding $15.1 million in Bitcoin shares through the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust.
Emory University, a prominent private research institution based in Atlanta, has disclosed holding nearly 2.7 million shares of the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust (BTC), valued at approximately $15.1 million, according to a filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 25, 2024.
In addition to its Bitcoin-related investment, Emory also reported holding 4,312 shares of Coinbase, valued at $768,269. Coinbase is a leading cryptocurrency exchange, and its stock (ticker: COIN) was trading at $205.70 as of September 30, 2024. Coinbase also serves as the custodian for Grayscale’s Bitcoin holdings.
Though pension funds in Wisconsin and Jersey City have previously reported Bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETF) investments, Emory is one of the few academic institutions to disclose holding Bitcoin.
As of now, Emory University has not issued a public statement regarding its investments in Bitcoin or its broader financial strategy involving digital assets. The SEC filing shows the university's portfolio holdings as of September 30, 2024.
