In a bid to appeal to the cryptocurrency community and counter former President Donald Trump's growing influence in the sector, Democrats have launched a new campaign initiative called "Crypto for Harris." This effort, reported by FOX Business' Eleanor Terrett, is spearheaded by a pro-Kamala Harris advocacy group with the objective of gathering support from crypto voters for Vice President Harris in her presidential campaign.
The "Crypto for Harris" campaign is set to host a virtual town hall next week, featuring high-profile "crypto advocates" such as billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci, founder of SkyBridge Capital and a critic of Trump. The event will also include several Democratic House members and is open to the public. The main discussion points will focus on support and fundraising strategies for Harris's campaign.
Trump has made significant inroads with the Bitcoin community, notably headlining the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, where he raised substantial funds and proposed the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Trump also suggested the possibility of using Bitcoin to address the United States' $35 trillion national debt.
In response to Trump's advances, the Harris campaign has added two "crypto advisers": David Plouffe, formerly on the advisory board of Binance, and Gene Sperling, an ex-Ripple board member.
Rep. Ro Khanna will also host a separate private virtual meeting with industry leaders from Coinbase, Ripple, Stellar, and Democratic operatives, including Harris campaign adviser Anita Dunn and senior Biden economic adviser Lael Brainard. The meeting, which had been rescheduled, is expected to include members of Harris's campaign team.
