David Hirsch has stepped down as chief of the SEC's crypto asset and cyber unit, ending his nearly nine-year tenure.
David Hirsch has stepped down from his position as chief of the crypto asset and cyber unit within the Division of Enforcement at the SEC. Hirsch announced his departure in a LinkedIn post on Monday, marking the end of a nearly nine-year tenure with the agency.
In his LinkedIn message, Hirsch reflected on his time at the SEC, stating, "This past Friday was my last day with the SEC after almost 9 years." He expressed pride in the "historic work" accomplished by the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. Hirsch did not specify his next professional endeavor but hinted at future announcements, saying, "I look forward to sharing more about that soon."
"As I often say, securities enforcement is a team sport, and that was certainly true throughout my tenure. Every success I was a part of was the direct result of collaboration and combined efforts towards a common goal," commented Hirsch.
The SEC has not yet announced a successor to lead the crypto asset and cyber unit. The implications of Hirsch's departure on the SEC's ongoing and future enforcement actions remain to be seen.
